Chitra Aangan
A lime-plaster floor under great trees hung with light.
Being built. You can already dance in it.
Up front by the band, with the crowd around you and the circle clapping behind.
The place
A pale lime-plaster floor in a ring of white gravel, great trees with a curtain of light strings and small lanterns hanging from their branches, a curved wall of panels for artwork, an outer wall painted with block-print rosettes, niches with diyas and a toran of marigolds and mango leaves. The musicians play on a teak platform.
- The sound
- A quick slap off the panel wall and the low walls, the leaves above soaking up the rest.
- Watching from far off
- You sit on the second row of seats, looking over their backs.
